Welcome to the Green Choices Toolkit™ webpage. Choices in the day to- day work of organizations provide a wide range of opportunities to benefit, protect and sustain the environment and society, as well as stakeholders. The Green Choices Toolkit can help an organization incorporate environmental and social responsibility criteria into daily decisions about materials, products, components, and equipment that are used, designed, specified, or purchased. The Toolkit is appropriate for anyone who buys, specifies, or designs products, materials, components, and equipment.
The Green Choices Toolkit is modeled after Aveda’s successful Materials Use Toolkit and Norm Thomson Outfitter’s ground breaking Sustainability Toolkit, both developed in conjunction with Brown and Wilmanns Environmental, LLC.
Using our extensive material and product databases we can create a Green Choices Toolkit that is “custom-fitted” to your company. Your Toolkit will feature specific Scorecards that can provide numerical ratings from a wide variety of materials. These range from wood and paper to glass and ceramics to metals and plastics. The ratings are based on environmental and social criteria developed to reflect a broad perspective on socially responsibility. A Toolkit can also be constructed that uses criteria developed to reflect you company’s unique perspective on environmental and social issues. The ratings scale is a guide to therelative environmental performance of the rated materials. Complementing each Scorecard is an Issues page that outlines the good and bad aspects of environmental and social performance. This is useful for understanding the specific concerns and benefits associated with different materials.
Your Green Choices Toolkit can also include a Resources section that provides a broad range of weblinks complementing the Scorecards and Issues pages, a Supplier/Vendor Questionnaire, and additional detailed information regarding agriculture and forestry practices, metals and mineral mining, and oil and chemical production. With each Toolkit a list of acronyms and a glossary of terms that explains critical concepts for readers are included.
