Sofia Kelly, M.S.

Sofia Kelly has worked at the forefront of supply chain social and environmental responsibility in the electronics industry since 1999. She established the industry’s first supply chain greenhouse gas emissions reduction goal as supply chain environmental program manager at Hewlett Packard, which has been recognized for its leadership role in corporate social responsibility. While at HP, Sofia developed and led the company’s award-winning supply chain environmental program.

Sofia also initiated other corporate environmental programs such as Sony Ericsson’s Green Partner and supply chain ethics programs. Her experience includes creating and overseeing internal state of the art multi-facility environmental management systems and environmental health & safety programs for Flextronics International and Ericsson Inc. Sofia received a Master of Science in Environmental Management from the University of Maryland Global Campus and a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science from the University of Mary Washington.

Aside from her contributions here at Brown-Wilmanns Environmental, Sofia has been actively involved with the Channel Islands Marine and Wildlife Institute (CIMWI), a nonprofit organization that rescues and rehabilitates marine mammals on California’s central coast. Her favorite part of the job is working hands-on with the animals in CIMWI’s care, including northern elephant seals, harbor seals, and of course, California sea lions (although Sofia thinks they should be called sea dogs instead of sea lions).

Sofia’s favorite projects to work on are those related to carbon management. She has dedicated years of her career to this specific area within the sustainability space and as more businesses publish climate goals and dedicate resources to achieving those goals, she’s glad that decarbonization is getting the attention it deserves.
